Diary
Sunday 20 July
Spent a few hours in the morning at a classic car show at Normanby Hall. Saw some great looking cars, not only ones from the 1950's and 1960's, but also 'newer' ones from the 70's and 80's. Some great Ford cars like the MkI Capri nd also the MkI and MkII Granada, with all the chrome bumbers. The afternoon was spent in Lincoln, trying to get a good photo of the cathedral. Have a look around the gallery for photos from the day.
Thursday and Friday 3rd and 4th July
Went to RAF Waddington to watch some of the planes come in for the weekend air show. The weather for these two fly-in days was warm and sunny. On the Thursday we got to see the Vulcan do a 20 minute routine before landing and on the Friday there were loads of planes from years gone by right up to todays Euro fighters coming in to land. Have a look at a few photos on the Diary Gallery page.
Sunday 29/06/08
So today we went out and the weather although cloudy was warm enough. We were only 30 minutes into our journey and the heavens opened. Rained cats and dogs. Then within an hour of the rain coming down, it was beautiful blue sky afternoon and evening. Have a look at the rain on the Dairy photo page in the gallery.
Tuesday 10/06/08
Went for a few hours to the Hope Valley area of the Peak District again. I got there late on in the evening so most of the tourists had left for the day. Stopping off first at Hathersage then onto Castleton and finally back via Stanage Edge. Some of the photos can be seen in the Peak District gallery page.
Saturday 24/05/08 and Sunday 25/05/08
This weekend we spent in Wales. We stayed in Tenby in south west Wales. We didn't have a great deal of time to wander as we were due to be at a birthday party in the afternoon. We managed to get back to visit Carew Castle and also another visit to the glorious Saundersfoot just up the coast from Tenby. The weather on Saturday was warm and sunny, although breezy. Sunday though the rains came - and stayed most of the day to be honest. We had to come back home on Sunday but on the way back we stopped off at a place called Aberdulais Falls. This waterfall is just north of Neath - not far from the M4. It's an old mine and smelting area, there are still signs of where people used to work and also a museum to look round and enjoy. Have a look at some of the pictures on the Diary photo page on the Gallery section.
Saturday 10/05/08
Spent a couple of hours at the RAF reunion at a local (disused) RAF base. We were again treated to some great parachute displays and the star attraction this year was the Lancaster Bomber. The crew did about six fly overs before heading off on their way. See a few of the photos on the diary photos section in the gallery.
Saturday 03/05/08
Had a few hours at Normanby Hall, they have a weekend of steam traction going on. They hold this event every year and it's a great time to get some unusual photos. Have a look at a few on the Diary Photos in the gallery.
Tuesday 15/04/08
Today was dentist day, both the wife and I are at the same one. She had to make a quick dash back from work to be there on time. That's me done there for another year - can't make next years appointment until later this year in October though.
Anyway, later in the afternoon we headed out for a while and ended up in the Peak District again. The weather was hail stones and cloudy when we got there - not many other people about. We'd only been there a few minutes when the clouds moved on and the last 30 minutes of sunshine came out. We went from Stanage Edge onto Castleton and through Winnats Pass. This is a really nice place - even better due to there being no-one else around to get in the way of the photos. Have a look at them on the all new Peak District page in the Gallery section.
Sunday 23/03/08
Easter was early this year, just making it officially into Spring. Although winter still had a surprise in store on Easter Sunday morning. We had more snow on that one morning than we had had for quite a few years - and by the afternoon it was all just about melted. What was the point in all that snow, only for it to melt away within a few hours.....there are a few photos on the Diary Gallery page if you fancy a look.
Tuesday 11/03/08
Trying to get our cats to sit still to have their photo taken is neigh on impossible, you have to try and catch them when they aren't looking. We have three cats, managed to get a photo of two of them but the other chap had gone walkabouts. One of them was rolling around on the concrete as normal and the other cat was looking at me - and then moved his head just as I took the picture...see the outcome on the diary gallery page.
Sunday 09/03/08
With the weather today being quite nice, well the sun was out for most of it anyway, I took a drive out to a local airfield. Sandtoft used to be a WWII airbase and has since been turned into a landing strip for a flying school and for a place for pleasure flights to operate from. Have a look at some of the photos from the afternoon on the gallery Diary photo page.
Thursday 28/02/08
On what would normally be the last day of February (damn those leap years) we went off to Withernsea on the east coast. Not too bad a day weather wise, no rain anyway. Rattled off a fair few photos of the sea crashing onto the rocks that had been strategically placed to try and stop the town succumbing to the North Sea. We used to come here as kids on holiday back in the 1970's staying in a caravan. The field we had the caravan in was high on a cliff and was always crashing down bit by bit into the sea due to coastal erosion. Each time we went there would be less and less of the field left. Most of it has gone now altogether. Nothing seems to change at Withernsea - not sure if that's a good thing or bad..... A few photos on the Diary Photo galley page.
Wednesday 27/02/08
Went to Nottingham today, mainly to visit relatives but also to have a look at the 'Nottingham Eye'. Not as big as the London Eye but still quite impressive. Have a look at a couple of pictures from the day on the Diary Photos gallery page.
Tuesday 19/02/2008
Very hard frost during the night and freezing fog - made for some excellent hoar frost on the trees - well anything that was outside got covered really. Have a look at some photos in the Diary Gallery section.
Monday 18/02/2008
Took a ride over to the Humber Bridge in the afternoon. There was about an hour or so of daylight left and with the air being misty and foggy at times, it made the bridge look kinda surreal.
Sunday 10/02/2008
This weekend the weather has been very good - for a change. So another visit to the Peak District was the order of the day - this time with the promise of nice warm weather. We went up to the top of Stanage Edge - and so did many other people I found out once at the top...... I will have to go back again and do more, only stayed for about an hour and a half. Then onto the reservoirs again at Ladybower and Derwent. The water was like glass, not a breath of breeze to disturb the reflections. Have a look at the all new Peak District gallery page to see a few shots of the day.
Saturday 09/02/2008
Today was a first for me, I went to a horse race. Actually one of those point to point meetings at Brocklesby Park not far from me. Taking pictures of racing is something new for me, so the success rate of photos wasn't the best but you have to learn somewhere don't you. Luckily it was a nice afternoon, sunny and very little wind. Have a look at some of the pictures from this meet on the Diary photo gallery page.
Sunday 03/02/2008
After seeing the water from the Derwent Dam overflowing the other week - a picture can still be seen in the Diary Photo section of this, I wanted to go back and see if the big sink holes in the Ladybower Reservoir were still overflowing. There had been plenty of snow in this area during the previous few days but by the time we went the snow had all gone. Filling the reservoir to the brim because the water was indeed falling down the holes. Kinda looks spooky to see two big holes in the water. Have a look at the picture on the Diary Photo gallery page
Tuesday 22/01/2008
After the rain of the past few days today was actually dry - well until later in the evening. Went to have a look at the floods on the River Trent. Have a look on the Landscapes gallery for a picture of the river back in September, the weather was nice and sunny and the river was on a slow sedate crawl. Now look at the Diary photo gallery to see how it is at the minute.
Saturday 12/01/2008
Today we went out for a drive, the weather was ok for the first time in a while and the coming week is supposed to be wet according to the weather men so today was a good day for going out. We ended up in Derbyshire at the Peak District. We go here quite often as we both like the scenery and the fact that it is only just over an hours drive from home. With it being mid January, it is still getting dark just after 4pm so you have to be quick with the photos before the light goes. Have a look at the Diary photo section for one of the photos I got today. This is of the Derwent Dam in full flow.
Sunday 16/12/2007
This weekend my wife put the tree up in the front room. This is something that I'm not allowed near when it is in the process of being decorated. My role is to keep my head down and out of the way while the wife spends time decorating - then she may take everything off the tree and start again - and maybe again the next day until she is completely happy with the way it looks. Have a look at the first version of the this years tree on the diary photo pages.
Saturday 15/12/2007
Had a photo session this morning with a toddler and his very young baby brother. This was a case of 'you ain't taking no photo of me mister', the toddler just didn't want his photo taking and the baby - well he was asleep all the way through. I managed to get a few usable shots of the two of them though. I know what the toddler means though - although I like taking photos, I can't stand having my photo taken....
Then a complete change of scenery and a ride out to Newark on Trent for some Xmas shopping. Not been there to shop in ages, well worth going again once the Xmas crowds are gone though.
Monday 26/11/2007
True to my word, we went back to Gainsborough this evening. This time the camera came with me. Have a look on the Diary Photo page on the Gallery section for a photo of the 'Gainsborough Pyramid'.
Sunday 25/11/2007
We went to Gainsborough today, they had a Christmas Market in the town centre and the Gainsborough Old Hall held a craft fair. Although Gainsborough is only 15 miles away from us, we have never been to have a look round - apart from when we are driving through on our way somewhere else. Mind you, we have been to the Old Hall before but not when they have the place full of craft stalls. It's a very nice Hall and some great photos can be had - although today's visit wasn't about photos, so the camera stayed at home. In the new shopping area of Gainsborough - Marshall's Yard, they have a very nice white light feature (I can't call it a tree, it's more like a pyramid). As I didn't have the camera with me, we'll have to come back and take a photo another day when it's dark.
